Ever wonder how many meals you should be eating?

First, let’s examine the question.  How many MEALS per day?  I’d like you to change that to how many TIMES should I be eating every day.  

It’s not that much different, but it is a change of perspective, and a change of perspective is what we need nowadays.  There’s too much misinformation out there.  

We need a change of perspective.

So, how many TIMES should you be eating per day?

My recommendation is 4 to 5 times (but there’s a caveat below).  Depending on how active you are, it might even be 6-7 times.  But let’s examine why I say 4-5 times:

People are usually awake an average of 16 hours per day.  Eat when you wake up, then eat every 3-4 hours.  Stop eating 2-3 hours before you go to bed.  With an accompanying exercise plan that is smart and focused, you will hit your goal.

But let me tell you a couple things (caveat alert!).  First, eating more often does NOT speed up your metabolism!  Lots of people - people who seem like they know what they are talking about - will tell you otherwise.  And they will all be wrong.  


Secondly, you can even have success eating 1 meal a day if that’s what suits you.  I know what you’re thinking: Moyer is loony!  But I’m not, because whatever you choose - 1 time a day, 3 times a day, 8 times a day - the key is this:

CONSISTENCY.  Stay consistent in your habits.  If eating 3 times a day suits your schedule and you’re getting the nutrients you need from those 3 times, it will work for you if you stay consistent with it.  Your body will adapt to that schedule and you will hit your goal, all other things being equal.  

But back to the question of this article, how many times per day should you be eating?  My advice is 4-5 times.  For the majority of my clients and the people I come across, this makes sense.  It’s also what I do.
